Frequently Asked Questions

What is financial planning?

Financial planning is a process of developing and maintaining a financial strategy that supports our future goals and lifestyle. We begin by reviewing your current financial situation, understanding what is important to you, and learning what you want your future to look like. Then, we provide personalized recommendations and an action plan to help you get there.

As your life progresses, new financial questions arise. Whether you need help investing in your 401(k), preparing to retire, or making your money last through retirement, we’re here to guide you. Your concerns, questions and thoughts are all welcome here.

What is different about Yates Financial Planning?

Our fees are transparent, and we do not sell any products and do not accept sales commissions or compensation other than directly from our clients. We are an independent fiduciary always working in your best interest.

What if I need to buy investment or insurance products?

We may offer recommendations on products and services that are fit for a client’s circumstances and needs. If you need a protection policy or to invest in a mutual fund or Exchange Traded Fund (ETF), we may offer opinions and advise you where you can obtain such products or services.

Do I have to have a lot of money to work with you?

No, we do not have a minimum income or investment account requirements.

Who benefits from your service?

We believe anyone seeking financial peace of mind can benefit from our services, no matter their age or life chapter. Yates Financial Planning proudly serves people from all walks of life. Our most important goal is to serve those who need and want professional financial guidance. We welcome clients who simply need a one-time financial consultation or second opinion as well as those looking for full financial planning services.

How do you select investments for a client?

When selecting investments, your goals and risk tolerance are our first considerations. Your investments should be right for you, so your objectives are the most important part of building your investment portfolio.

We aim to build portfolios that are diversified, well-balanced and built for the long term. When coupled with affordability and patience, we believe you have an increased likelihood of achieving your long-term financial objectives.

Given our role as fiduciaries, we always strive to choose the most appropriate investment vehicles to meet your objectives while being conscious of total expenses and risk exposure.

How do you price your financial planning services?

Our project-based financial planning fees are based on the scope and complexity of your situation and needs. A financial plan can address a range of topics, including cash flow, investments, taxes, retirement planning, pensions, estate planning, insurance, savings opportunities, college planning, and more.

The fees cover meetings (in person or by phone), analysis of your circumstances, research to identify solutions, and delivery of recommendations.

How much will my financial planning cost?

Financial planning fees depend on the specific needs and complexity of your situation. An estimate is provided after the discovery & proposal meeting when your personal needs are identified.

Once my financial plan or project is finished, will our relationship end?

No, only that engagement will end. It’s up to you to contact Diana as the need arises. Regular reviews are recommended and can be provided through our consultation services. We encourage you to keep in touch and schedule a meeting if any questions come up.

How can I get started?

Diana offers a no-obligation introductory phone call. If you’re interested, simply set up a time that works for you. After our call, if we determine our services are a fit for you, we’ll schedule a longer complimentary discovery & proposal meeting.
